update
Hey Everyone,
So the last month has been pretty busy. I have been working on a ton of different nights for Jason Scoppa that have been going really well and have involved some of my musical heroes. The club is starting to really make a stamp of the city and I feel so blessed to be a part of it. I also am musical director for LP (www.iamlp.com) who recently signed with Warner Bros records. I am so excited for LP and can’t wait to get into the studio to make her album and to do some fun gigs later this year and early next year. If you haven’t seen LP perform yet get ready because she is a truly amazing talent and person and I feel so blessed to be able to help her realize her musical vision.
Some of the nights that I have been working on are:
A weds night jazz series at the Redbury in Hollywood with Scott Seiver and Dennis Hamm. This night is so fun, the music is always great, the place and food are amazing and some special guests like Gil Goldstein have stopped by to play sets with us.
Thursday I do the Sessions at the Sayers Club (http://vimeo.com/26042790). These nights are pretty insane and you really just have to experience to know what I’m talking about.
Fridays I am at the beautiful rooftop restaurant Perch in Downtown with Joey Dosik and Mike Green. This place overlooks the city and is so incredible. We get to play a lot of our new original music at this gig and it is always a fun time.
on Sundays I do a really fun night at the Sayers club with master drummer Keith Harris and the Regiment Horn section. We play some hard hitting funk/hip hop/jazz music and these nights are always different and tons of fun.
In November I will also be starting a classical music series with Marcel Camargo at the Soho house in West Hollywood. This series will focus on promoting the work of musicians around town who are writing new classical music and it will be played by our amazing chamber group. For the first show on Nov 6th the band will be Kaveh Rastegar, John Wood (the Black Keys), Daphne Chen (the section quartet), Brian Walsh and Marcel Camargo. I am really excited to see and hear what kind of music everyone composes for the night and my hope is that this series opens up new doors for classical music, for the audience in LA and for the artists.
I have gotten to work on a few great albums also in the past few months. One is the upcoming record from DJ Anthony Valadez (label TBA), I played most of the instruments on a lot of the tracks on the record and I helped write a number of the tunes with Anthony. I also co-wrote 5 tunes and played most of the instruments on the new album from Elan Atias (from the Wailers) to be released in late October. I also wrote a few tracks for the upcoming album from rapper Stix. He’s getting a lot of attention these days and me and Trevor Lawrence Jr. did two really great tracks for him, one featuring Nick Simmons. I also am very close to finishing my duo EP with Joey Dosik and we have been doing some select gigs around town and are hoping to tour a little in the Spring as well as get into the studio with as many artists and producers as we can.
Lastly, I am done with my next record entitled “Violet” which will be released in March via Porter Records. I couldn’t be more excited about this record and I am so ready to get some of my new music into the world.
Hope to see you all at one of my nights soon,
peace,
Nick
